Setting up your Quest Headset
Purchasing the Game
You can purchase the game from Meta Store by clicking here. The store can also be accessed from the Meta Horizons app, or through the store on your Quest headset.
Controller Layout
Throughout this guide, we will be referring to specific buttons and controls on the quest touch controllers. Please familiarize yourself with the layout and labels.
Installing the Game
- Press the Universal Menu button on the right controller to bring up the interface.
- Now select Library > Applications
- Ensure that the Filter is set to All and locate Train Sim World VR.
- Select to Download
Accessibility Options
If you would like to adjust your height, you can do this with your headset's accessibility settings. To learn more about accessibility on the Meta Quest platform, please visit: Accessibility features for Meta Quest
- From your Meta Quest headset, select Settings, then select Accessibility.
- Select Mobility then turn on Adjust height.
Setting a Boundary
- Press the Universal Menu button to bring up the interface.
- Open Quick Settings by selecting the clock/battery icon.
- Then select Boundary and follow the guide to set a Stationary or Roomscale boundary, depending on the space available.
Launching the Game
- Press the Universal Menu button to bring up the interface.
- Now select Library > Applications
- Then, select Train Sim World VR to launch the game.
Casting the Game
If you would like to share your experience with others, you have a couple of options.
Casting to the Mobile App
This is the easiest option to share your experience with friends and family around you.
- Download the Meta Horizon App (How to Install the Meta Horizon mobile app on your phone)
- Log in to the Meta Horizon App and pair your headset.
- Put on your headset, and open the Universal Menu.
- Open Quick Settings by selecting the clock/battery icon.
- Select Cast > Mobile, then press Next.
- Open the Meta Horizon App on your phone and select the headset icon in the top left.
- Now, select Cast, and it will connect to your headset.
- From here, you can watch the headset user's feed on your phone, or mirror your phone screen to a bigger screen using your phone's built in quick settings.
Casting to a Web Browser
This option is useful if you would like to stream your experience.
- Go to: https://www.oculus.com/casting
- Log in to your Meta account.
- Put on your headset, and open the Universal Menu.
- Open Quick Settings by selecting the clock/battery icon.
- Select Cast > Web, then press Next.
- You will now see the headset's video feed on your web browser.
Recording in OBS
- Download OBS for free here: https://obsproject.com/download
- Open OBS on your PC.
- Under Sources, click on the + icon to add a new source.
- Select Browser as the source.
- Below the preview window, select Interact.
- Now, follow the "Casting to a Web Browser" instructions from within OBS.
- When complete, you can start recording your video feed with OBS.
Recording & Screenshots
Taking Screenshots
- You can take a screenshot at any time by holding the Universal Menu button and pressing the right-hand Trigger.
- Your screenshots will appear in the Camera/Gallery app.
- You can view and download your screenshots from the Meta Horizon App or here: https://www.meta.com/gallery/quest/
Recording a Video
- To start a video recording, you can Hold the Universal Menu button and Hold the right-hand Trigger.
- Alternatively, you can start a recording through the Camera App.
- Your videos will appear in the Camera/Gallery app.
- You can view and download your videos from the Meta Horizon App or here: https://www.meta.com/gallery/quest/
Broadcasting
You can broadcast your experience directly to Facebook or YouTube from the headset.
- Open the Universal Menu.
- Select the Camera App.
- Now, click on Go Live.
- then, login to either Facebook or YouTube.

Moving Around
To move, tilt the left analogue stick forward to project a teleportation ring in front of you. Let go of the stick to instantly jump to the location selected. To turn, move the right analogue stick left or right.
Options Menu
The Pause Menu will be accessible from the big screen in the apartment when you first start the game and at any other time by pressing the App Menu button on the left controller. From here you can access...
Resume - Return to gameplay.
Restart Level - Reset the current mission and start again.
Options - Access various comfort settings, audio levels, controls, and acesscibility settings.
Reset Orientation - If you've moved and you no longer line up with the cab, press this button to reset your view.
Reset Height - If you've changed from sitting to standing or vice versa then press this button to reset the height of your in-game character.
Return Home - This will take you back to the apartment at any time.
Comfort Settings
Adjust the game to meet your VR comfort preferences.

Smooth Turn Dot | Off/Small/Medium/Large | When smooth turning is enabled, you can choose to enable a dot reticle in the middle of the screen to give your eyes something to focus on while turning, which can help to reduce motion sickness. |

On Foot

Movement | Free/Teleport | Free - Smoothly slide forward/back/left/right as you would in a normal first person game. This can cause motion sickness for some players. Teleport - You move by projecting a teleporting ring at the location you want to move to. This can help to reduce motion sickness. |

Tutorials
On the coffee table, you will find a user guide for the M3A and M7A. You can pick them up using the Grip button. While holding the user guide, you can review the basic operations of this train and launch the tutorial by touching the highlighted button.
Photo Album
At the back of the apartment you will find the Photo Album next to the radio. Pick it up using the Grip button and take a look back at your adventures on the Harlem line.
Game Modes
The big screen on the wall is your portal to the Harlem line. From here you can access various game modes and more.
Career
This mode will let you progress through a variety of missions set across the Harlem line. Each mission has a pre-selected loco, a number of station stops and driving challenges to complete along the way. From here, you can also customize the colour of your gloves.
Journeys
This mode will allow you to replay segments of the Harlem line in either the M3A or M7A without any distractions. Complete the journey within the target time and earn medals. In this mode, you may also leave the cab at stations by using the Grip button on the cab door handle.
Explore
Take some time to visit any station you have stopped at during Career or Journey mode. Look for collectibles, take some photos for the album, and ride as a passenger.
Profile
Your profile is accessible through the leftmost icon on the menu. Here you will find various stats about your time on the Harlem line. You can also access the achievements list from here.
Achievements
Check out your progress towards various challenging achievements.
Driving the M3A & M7A
Using the Tablet
You can interact with the tablet by pointing your hand towards it, which will project a red pointer to show you where you are aiming. Buttons can be pressed by targeting them with the pointer and pressing the right trigger. Some buttons will need to be held. While you are driving, you can glance at the tablet to check on critical information.

Driving & Door Operations
Turn on the Master Key
Tilt your thumb and index finger towards the master key, Grip the key and twist clockwise.
Open the Doors
Reach to the top right and touch the Doors button to let passengers onboard.
Wait for Passenger Loading
Passengers will take a few moments to get onboard before you can continue.
Close the Doors
Reach to the top right and touch the Doors button again to close them.
Move the Reverser into Forward
Grip the Reverser with your palm facing down, and push forward.
Move the Master Controller into the Power Range
Grip the handle on top of the Master Controller with your palm facing down. Then rotate the lever clockwise. Once you've reached the desired speed, move the Master Controller in to the Coast position. Use the Tablet to make sure the Master Controller is in the right place.
Approaching the Station
As you approach the next station stop, you will need to sound the horn before reaching the platform. This will be indicated by two signs, one to sound the horn and one to stop. The sooner your sound the horn after passing the first sign, the more Actions Points you will earn.
Stopping at Stations
Monitor the distance to the next station stop. Between 2000-1000 yards, be prepared to slow down. Aim to apporach the station at less than 30mph so you can get the perfect stop. Move the Master Controller anticlockwise into the Braking Zone. Adjust the brakes to bring yourself to a stop within the colored zone. The closer you stop to the marker, the more Action Points you will earn.
Driving Challenges
Speed Gates
Pass through speed gates at the target speed to earn maximum Action Points.
Track Engineers
Sound the horn to warn Track Engineers of your approach, when you see the icon. The sooner you sound the horn, the more Actions Points you will earn.
Train Enthusiasts
Sound the horn for Train Enthusiasts when you see the icon appear. The sooner your sound the horn, the more Action Points you will earn.
Exploring On Foot
Finding Collectibles
If you find a hidden collectible while exploring the Harlem line, pick it up with the Grip button and it will join your collection in the apartment.
Switching Platforms
While exploring stations, you can switch platforms by moving into the marked area and selecting which track you would like to move to.
Switching Stations
Walk up to a route map and point your hand at it to access fast travel. From here you can only visit any station you have stopped at in Career and Journey Mode.
Taking Photos
Look down to your chest and you will find an instant camera. You can hold it with one hand using the Grip button. To take a photo press the Trigger in the hand holding the camera, or by touching the red button on top of the camera. The undeveloped photo will pop out the bottom of the camera. Grip it with the other hand and give it a good shake to help it develop. Let go, and the photo will be sent to your Photo Album, back in the apartment.
Boarding a Train
Wait a few minutes and a train will enter the station, allowing you to jump on board and ride as a passenger. To get onboard move into the marked area by the doors. To leave the train simply select the leave button when stopped at any station.
