What Is Free Roam Mode?
Start a Free Roam scenario on any route and use our tools to add/remove rolling stock and set paths. This mode will give you a blank canvas to create a service/timetable on the fly or just make the most imaginative consist you can think of. This mode can also be used in combination with the Livery Designer, and Formation Designer.
Important: All locos require a compatible power supply to be drivable in Free Roam mode. Typically, an electric German train, won't run on a British route and vice versa.

Choosing a Train
You can search and filter the train list to find what you're looking for. Please note that variants of the same train may be grouped under the same entry. Once you select a train, you can choose the formation you would like to spawn from the side panel.
How to set a path
By default, all the signals will be red. To get anywhere, you will need to tell the game where you want to go, by setting a path. The dispatcher will use this information to clear a route for you.
- To set a path, sit down in your train and open the in-game map with the 9 Key or the View/Touchpad button.
- Then select your train and choose Set Path.
- The next step is to Set Destination and the path will be automatically set. However, you will not be available to set a path to a destination your loco cannot physically reach. For instance, if you are driving a train that draws power from an overhead line, you cannot set a path to an area with no overhead power.
- Now the signals will go green, and if you look at the map you will see a turquoise path between your train and the destination.
- If you would like to add a "Go Via" instruction, go back to the map select your train and choose Add Go-Via Waypoint.
- Then click anywhere between you and the destination that is physically reachable by your train.
